Look What I Can Do

About the Activities

The activities in this section of the Greenbush Learning Collection were originally printed as part of "Look What I Can Do, Too!"-- a literature-based curriculum guide for parents and educators of young children.

It was written by Sandra K. Marshall, Early Childhood Specialist, and Cassandra A. Elsworth, Family Life Educator , who now is the director of Early Childhood Services at the Education Service Center at Greenbush.

The developmentally appropriate activities focus on the content presented in exemplary books for young children and provide fun, practical ways for them to utilize their pre-reading and pre-writing skills. Young children are naturally curious learners. To keep that spark alive, ensure that the activities and experiences planned for young children:

* Consist of developmentally appropriate practices

* Utilize hands-on, meaningful activities

* Foster curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving abilities

* Provide opportunities for them to express their own ideas

* Allow them to experience success

These literature-based activities include objectives for each activity presented. You are limited only by their imaginations as to the variety of skills and concepts that can be presented. We encourage the use of the activities in a format that is fun, as well as educational.

Please note, in order to facilitate readability and keep the focus on the individual child, masculine pronouns have been used. We in no way infer any gender bias. All information contained in this guide is applicable to all children.
